PBCFI got its first USAID Grant (PhilAm Fund) with Gerry Roxas Foundation Inc.; Wetlands program was highlighted with the recognition of the Negros Occidental Coastal Wetlands Conservation Area (NOCWCA) as Ramsar and East Asian – Australasian Flyway Network Site. PhilBio increased in number of personnel and areas of operation to include Mindanao;; discovery of a new species of Gastrodia (Gastrodia cajanoe).
